Description. —A A, an iron cup containing mercury ;B, the floating vessel to which the outlet, C, is attached—the lower end of outlet also carries the valve. When thepressure exceeds that to which it is adjusted, the invertedvessel rises, carrying the valve with it, and partly closesthe opening to the required size, maintaining a uniformflame under any pressure.
