Weight, that the whole Ship may be filledwith its acid Fumes. Which will be the moreeffectually done, if there are two or threesuch Iron Tubes and Stoves, or Hearths, forthe Brimstone to burn in at the fame time.The upper Deck, Gratings, &c. to be cover’dwith Tarpaulins. When the Bales are takenout, to burn in the Ship as much Brimstoneas the Men can bear.
341. The Mens Cloaths ought also to befumed, and then washed in salt and after-wards fresh Water. The Men also to bebathed in, and drink some salt Water, and totake anti-pestilential Medicines j such as Mi-neral Acids, &c. And if they are afterwardsfumed in a Room, as above - mentioned,(Numb. 338.) these will be probable Means,in most Cafes, much to shorten the Time ofperforming Quarentine, as well as effectuallyto cure the pestilential Infection. Monf. DuHatriel de Alonceau, (to whom I sent this Pro-posal) informed me, that these Methods ofpurifying Quarentine Ships, Men and Goods,are now practised in the Mediterranean Portsof France, where they traffick much withFurky.
