Besides the common Motives ofHumanity to use our best Endeavours for pre-serving the Health and Lives of Mankind,there are some peculiar to this unhappy Age ;in order to counter-ballance, in some measureat least, the astonishing Havock and De-struction that is made of the Lives and Moralsof Mankind, over a great Part of the World ;occasioned by fermented distilled spirituousLiquors, which even debase the Breed ofMan: An Evil so amazingly great, that didnot woful Experience too fully prove it, itwould seem incredible to believe, that anywhom it concerns, could possibly be so negli-gent, as not to use their utmost Endeavoursto suppress that destructive Man-Bane.
