Although there can be no reasonable doubt butthe Anemone ranunculoides is indigenous to Eng-land, there is not, probably, one of our readers whohas had the pleasure of collecting it from its nativehaunts. We say pleasure — perhaps, may havesaid ecstacy, and we fancy many of our readers willbe sensible of the application of such expression,having felt nature’s enchantment when looking,for the first time, on a rare and beautiful plant —long known by description, but now discovered inits own secluded habitat—
“ Where I thought it delightful your beauties to find,When the magic of Nature first breathed on my mind.”
Such felicity is reserved for the truly zealousnaturalist—he who searches out the beauties ofcreation in their secluded avenues, and bears themhome, in the triumph of his heart, as the choicesttreasures of science.
The Anemone ranunculoides, when seen in well-grown patches, makes a pleasing appearance inspring. It will flourish in common soil, and maybe increased by division of its tuberous roots.
