f HERE was a storm of grief. The waveswere tossing high upon the sea of life, andtheir crests were lifted far and wide, and drop-ping tears upon the deep. The solemn murmurwas echoed all along the shore. It intruded uponthe business thoughts. Its roar was heard abovethe noise of commerce, and the city’s hum. Itwas a melancholy sound, men for once were ledto give up their eager haste, and ask, to what allthis love of gain might tend. The serious affairsof life were brought to mind. The interests ofeternity were compared to those of time. Alleyes were directed to this wreck of life. Allhearts were moved by this suddenness of death.But this wave of sorrow did not cease.
