6. Of Air. from Minium , dissolved in Spiritof Salt.
Spirit of salt, I have observed, dissolves agreat quantity of minium. In order to dis-cover what became of the dephlogisticatedair it contains, I distilled a quantity of thatsolution, which was of a yellow colour, made by the first affusion of the acid. Whenthe solution became hot it yielded a quantityof dephlogisticated air, mixed with a verysmall quantity of finest air, so as to makelime water turbid only in the slightest de-gree. As it boiled no air at all was procured, nor when it was distilled to dryness.
I treated in the same manner a saturatedsolution of white minium, made so by itscolour having been discharged by a previousaffusion of the acid. But this solutionyielded no air at all from the beginning tothe end of the process. Nor was the com-mon air in the retort phlogisticated either atthe beginning or the end.
