Fairbairn’s Patent Riveting Machine. Plan.
[The invention of the riveting machine originated ina turn-out of the boiler-makers in the employ of thee xhibitor about fifteen years ago. On that occasion theat tempt was made to rivet two plates together by Corn -Passing the red-hot rivets in the ordinary punching-Press. The success of this experiment immediately led toae construction of the original machine, in which theMoveable die was forced upon the rivet by a powerfulever, acted upon by a cam. A short experience provedhe original machine inadequate to the numerous require-ments of the boiler-maker’s trade, and the present form^therefore adopted abput eight years since.
^ . e large stem, A, is made of malleable iron, anduving an j ron strap, BB, screwed round the base, ithders the whole perfectly safe in the case of the diesdoming i n contact with a cold rivet, or any other hardstance, during the process. Its construction alsoow s t jj e W01 .p man t0 r ; vet a ngle iron along the edges,
