safety-valve, invented by the

Mr. Hick : it consists of a brass globe or sphere filled withlead, and merely resting over and closing a circular orifice, having no joints or levers connected with it; it will alwaysblow off steam at a given pressure, thus preventing thepossibility of accident from over-pressure.

Wheat-cleaning machine. This machine consists oftwo conical cylinders, formed of a series of files whichare placed vertically, and are secured at top and bottomby means of cast-iron rings; a space is left between theinner and outer cylinders, which can be increased ordiminished as required, the inner cylinder revolves rapidlyupon its axis. The object of the machine is to separateand remove the smut and other impurities from the grain, which it accomplishes in the most effectual manner, andwill clean about 200 bushels per hour.

Model of exhibitors’ patent open-ended three-cylinderlocomotive engine with a tender.

Radial drilling machine (full size). This will drillholes up to 4 in. diameter, and extending over a circle11 ft. 6 in. diameter; the jeb can be raised or lowered atpleasure, by means of a square threaded screw cut uponthe upright spindle, and moves freely round with itsspindle on a series of small I’ollers placed under the risingblock or nut.

Models of a pair of condensing steam-engines of 120-horse power each; the models are made on the scale of1j- in. to the foot.

In addition to the above, the exhibitors have sent anengine of six-liorse power, together with a considerableamount of mill-gearing and framework, supported upona number of ornamental columns. This mill-gearing andsteam-engine give motion to the machinery contributedby Messrs. Hibbei't, Platt, and Sons, of Hartford NewIron Works, Oldham.
