Jacquard machine for bobbin-net lace frames andweaving-looms. Patented in France and England.
This is an improvement on the old “ Jacquard,” havingin view the saving of wear in the machine itself, and thereduction of cost in preparing the perforated medium bywhich the figures are produced on the fabric. The firstimprovement consists in the substitution of a simple“lever movement” for the old spring driving action, which allows of the introduction of the second improve-ment, namely, the new medium—thin paper instead ofcard-board—as the action of the improved machine is solight that the paper is equally if not more durable thanthe old cards, while the cost is reduced about 99 per cent.,and the band or material is reduced to one fourth of theusual length of the cards : besides which, there is attachedto this patent a machine for producing the bands from aperforated design, by which they can be stamped at therate of 3,000 cards per horn'.
