Sewing, embroidering, and cord-making machine, calledCousobrodeur, a new invention, patented in England.Samples of sewing on different stuffs.

[Tliis machine, which is in the form of a chiffonier orwork-table, three feet high, is furnished with a pedal andsurmounted with a box in gilt bronze, which contains theprincipal machinery. The workman seated before it, setsit in motion by means of a pedal, while with his hands heguides at will, horizontally, apiece of stuff either single ordouble. Each stroke of the pedal causes a crotchet hookto pass through the stuff, and forms a series of stitchesequally adapted for sewing or embroidery. A screwenables the workman to vary, with great accuracy, thesize of the points of embroidery; and by the same meansthe sewing may be slackened or tightened at will. By aseries of tubes of different sizes, the number of the needlesmay be changed, so that the same machine may be used forthe manufacture of almost every kind of needlework at therate of 250 stitches a minute. When used for embroidery,the needle of the machine, turning by means of a secondpedal moved by the left foot, enables the workman to

execute all sorts of patterns on the coarsest as well as thefinest stuffs.]
