ARRANGEMENT OF ARTICLES.

14!). The goneral principles which will govern the arrangement of Articles in the Buildingare as follows :—

149a. The productions of the United Kingdom and tho British Colonies will be grouped IFes<-ward of tho Central Transept.

The productions of the United Kingdom will bo arranged into tho above-mentioned thirtyclasses as far as practicable.

1491). The productions of each Colony will be placed together, and classified as far as prac-ticable into the thirty classes aforesaid.

149c. Tho productions of each Foreign Country will bo placed together Eastward of the Tran-sept—except Machinery in Mutton , which, on account of the motive power being at tho North-west end of tho Building, must be placed in that part of tho Building. Tho productions of eachCountry will bo classified nation by nation, and as far as practicable into tho thirty classesalready adopted for the United Kingdom .

14!)d. As a general rule, Machinery will be placed at the North side, and Raw Materials andProduce brought to tho South side of the Building. Tho intermediate parts will be occupiedby Manufactures and Fine Arts.

14!)(\ There is hardly any choice in respect of light, which is nearly tho same in all parts of thoBuilding. The Sotdh side, as well as tho roof of the Building, both in tho North and tdouth sides, will be covered with canvas. Tho sidos of the upper and the gallery tier on the North will notbo so covered.

14!)/. The following decisions of Her Majosty’s Commissioners may be liorc repeated viz • _

149 g. Tho Commissioners, accordingly, with confidence, resign to the Exhibitors themselves thoproper exhibition of tlioir goods, and the responsibility of making the necessary preparationsfor displaying them, subject only to such general rulos ivs shall bo conducive to tho interestof all parties. The Executive Committee are desirous of pointing out that great mutual ad-vantages will arise from Exhibitors of tho same description of articles acting as much aspossible in combination in the fitting up of their spaces, and in arranging for tho cleaning, watching, and general superintendence of the respective articles ; anil Exhibitors on a smallscale should bear in mind that by such a system of combination they may bo able to secure,at a small expense to themselves, tho services of ono person jointly to watch over and cleantheir goods, and furnish explanations to the Public.

14!)/f. It may be convenient to Exhibitors to know that Messrs. Fox, Henderson, and Co.,the Contractors for tho Building, are prepared, in accordance with tho wishes of Exhibitors, toconstruct counters, shelves, frames, stands, and every necessary fitting for the proper displayof the articles to bo exhibited, and to lend or sell glass-cases whore required. A tariff ofprices may be obtained of Messrs. Fox, Henderson, and Co., at the Building. At tho sametime, Exhibitors are at liberty to make any other arrangements more satisfactory to them-selves ; but in exorcising their own judgment and taste, Exhibitors will obviously bear inmind that tho effect of the Exhibition must materially depend upon the mode in which theyoxcroiso this privilege thus confided to them.

[Not much advantage was taken of this arrangement. Tho whole time and attention of the staff ofMessrs. Fox and Henderson were necessarily required for the completion of the Building.]

149/. Evory Exhibitor who desires to attend himself, or by his representative, duringthe Exhibition, must obtain permission to do so from tho Executive Committee. Ho mustdeduct tho sitting or standing space for such attendant from the superficial iloor or counterspace allotted to him ; but ho will bo allowed to make up tho deduction by building up andarranging those goods properly authenticated for admission, on shelves ono above tho other, within tho boundary of his allotment, to any height he pleases, under nineteen foot from thofloor.

[F.xpcrience went to show, that when an article required care or explanation, the attendance of theproprietor, or of some one in his service, added to the interest and instruction of the public. ThoExecutive Committee, therefore, relaxed the rule for deducting the space for an attendant.]

1 ■!!)_/. There will bo a central Passage, forty-eight feet wide, a Corridor at tho North and at tho
