There is no official registry kept in any offico of the foreigners who come to this country, and with a view to ascertain as nearly as possiblo the numbers arriving here during the Exhi-bition, 1 made arrangements to procure daily returns from each of the principal ports of thenumber known to liavo landed. The whole number shown by these returns to have arrivedbetween the latter end of June and tho middle of October, is (16,(120.

There seems to liavo boon no' difficulty in obtaining lodgings by tho visitors.
The Police returns show a remarkable and most pleasing absence of crime in any way con-nected with tho Exhibition. The cases of every sort that occurred within tho ExhibitionBuilding in which partios wero apprehended, wore 21, and tho value of property stolen £4 5s. '.id.and tho amount recovered was .£4 5s. 3 il.
Tho general criminal tables for the Metropolitan Police district show that for tho fivo monthsfrom 1st May to 30th September, there was an increase of 294 persons only taken into custody, and for the months of July, August, and September, there was an actual decroaso as comparedwith tho previous year. This is wonderful, and calls for tho most grateful acknowledgment, considering tho enormous accumulation of property of such value, and so greatly exposed in thoExhibition itself, tho numerous facilities for tho commission of crimo whenever large numbersof persons are assembled, and the general state of the metropolis during that season, when alarge incrcaso of criminal offences might have boon expected.
Tho extensive measures of precaution adopted, and tho arrangements of Polico so success-fully carried out, all contributed to these results, without diminishing in any degree the praiseso constantly admitted to bo justly duo to tlio millions who visited the metropolis on thisevor-mcmorablo occasion.
