The Union Canal extends from Reading on z
the river Schuylkill, where it intersects the " £
Schuylkill Canal, to Middletown on the Susquehannah ~river, a distance of 80 miles. §
The Schuylkill Canal extends from Philadelphia to §the coal mines at Port Carbon, a distance of 114 miles, gThe Lehigh Canal extends along that river from FEaston to Mauch Chunk, a distance of 47 miles. A £rail road 9 miles in length, extends from Mauch Chunkto the coal mines. >
The Lackawaxen Canal extends from the Delaware ^river at the mouth of Lackawaxen creek, up it to nearBethany, 24 miles; it there unites with a rail-road 9miles in length, which extends to the coal mines at theLackawannock mountains.
The Conestoga Canal connects the city of Lancasterwith the Susquehanna river , length 18 miles.
The Susquehanna Canal extends along the west side ofmouth of the Juniata river to near the junction of the northa distance of 39 miles. The canal is then extended alongthe state of New York , a distance of 165 miles, and alongDunnstown, a distance of 70 miles.
