It is the seat of theUniversity of N. C. This seminary was incor-}>oratcd in 1788, and liberally supported bypublic donations, and private benefaction. Therevenues are at present ample. It has 9 in-structors, and 69 students. The libraries haveshout 5,000 volumes. The studies of which aknowledge is required in order to gain admis-sion to this institution are Csrsar’s Comment-aries, Sallust , Virgil, Mair’s Introduction, andton chapters of St John’s Gospel . Tiie studiesduring the first two years, are the languagesand geography; during the third year, mathe-matics; and during the fourth, natural, intel-lectual, and moral philosophy. The annualexpenses for board, tuition, See. amount to about140 dollars. The commencement is held onIhe first Thursday in June, a tier which thereis a vacation of 6 weeks; there is another va-cation of 4 weeks in December.
