this Poisoner of the Fountain has hitherto e-scaped Animadversion . so guard therefore theIgnorant and Unwary against the 'Deceptionsof this new Editor and Translator, and tofew how ill qualified he is to aU in eitherof those Capacities, I have in the followingSheets examined his new Text and Version ;the 'Particulars of which may he seen in theTable of Contents ; designing with all conveni-ent Speed', if God Jhall enable me, to continuethe Examination of this 'Book in a Second Part.In which the Bead er may expeU to find theevil Design, had Reasoning, and false Criticismof the explanatory Notes detetied, and thevarious Readings shewn to he. without Choiceor Design, sometimes erroneously collected, and,at least in one Instance, willfully misrepresented:I mean with Relation to the famous Passageof i John v. 7. Therein also I propose a De-fence of the Canon of the New Testament a-gainst our Author’s Cavils , and unfair Repre-sentation of the antient Testimonies concerningthat Part of it, which was not for some of thefirst Ages universally received in the ChristianChurch. I further design to point out the falseand malicious References contained in his Al-phabetical Index, and to conclude with someRemarks on what he calls the Chronology ofthe Books of the New Testament .
