^he Conclusion.

In a Word, the Version before us has so manyFaults, and so sew Improvements, that, in a bet-ter Age, it would have funk by the meer Weightof its own Imperfections. But it is the true,though ridiculous Character of the present Time ,that the Men of it are inquisitive after Darkness,and give Encouragement to the meanest Perfor-mances that are levelled against good Principlesand found Doctrine. No Attempt therefore ofthis Kind is below our Notice: And such as havea Zeal for the Glory of God, and the Advance-ment of his holy Truths, must sometimes descend toa Combat with Trifles, and content themselveswith ignoble Triumphs over palpaple Ignorance,and gross Blunder. For which Reason, I havethe more chearfully submitted to the Drudgery ofexamining the new Text and Version of the New Testament , and have largely supplied those whowant either Leisure or Abilities for such Enqui-ries, with its several Imperfections. And if myLabours herein be deemed useful, I propose in alittle Time , to trouble the World with furtherRemarks on the Notes, and various Readings,&c. For there the Editor appears with less Re-serve, and has the Confidence to attack a consi-
