38. Another; an elongated man, with ancient sword and wild beard.Inscribed Go-gun mo-kang.

39. Another; a seated figure, with conical head and beard, representingGehow, one of the seven gods.

40. Another; representing Ilo-tey, another of the seven gods, as a mancarrying two bags at the end of a stick across his shoulders; in one of the bags isseen a child.

41. Another; a group of two children, very well carved, one of them isplaying with a windmill toy. Sculptors name, Reyo-min.

42. Another; an old man, boy and puppy. Same sculptor as the last.

43. Another; two men, with singular ears; one of them is pounding rice,which is carried off in a bag by the other. Sculptors name, Tada-chika.

44. Another; two men supporting a monstrous gourd.

45. Another; two mythical figures (Sho-jo), at a cauldron, one of whichseems about to give the other a blow with a ladle. Compare Siebold, Nippon,PI. xl. fig. 593. Sculptors name, Ho-cien.

46. Another; a man seated, surrounded by four imps.

47. Another; three men seated round a large bag. Carved by To-ko.

48. Another, in the form of a bottle, with stopper; round it two mythicalfigures (Sho-jos) seem playing at bo-peep.

49. Another; a monkey holding a tortoise. Sculptors name, Ko-gain.

50. Another ; a buffalo reclining, very carefully carved. Sculptors name,T omo-tada.

51. Another, representing a group of bamboos, under which are seven figures,alluding to seven wise men in China, a.d. 300; it is inscribed Giok-yo-ka Reyo-giun.

52. Another, in the form of a sacred bell, round the upper part of which iscoiled a snake. This alludes to an old Buddhist legend.

53. Another; three fruit, on which is resting a fly. It is inscribed Giok-yo-cy.

54. Another, in the form of five almonds, with a snail on one of them; theother four have openings in them, representing' views in Japan. Makers name,Tama-gawa.

55. Another, in the form of a fruit and vegetables.

56. A Button or Netsuge, made of pressed horn ; in front are half figures ofa warrior and an evil spirit; at the back the moon appearing out of clouds, and ademons face in water. 1 -J in. square.

57. Another, carved out of hard wood ; it is in the form of a fruit, withinwhich are two figures playing at draughts. Diameter 1^ in.

58 61. Four metal Plates, for the fastenings of pouches, with various figuresin low relief. Length 3 to 2 in.

62. Another, similar; representing the moon and wild fowl flying.

63. Another, with a stork in high relief.

64. Another, with a female mask. Diameter f in.
