doubled, tripled, &c. or halved, thirded, &c.will be 2 C, 3 C, &c. or 7 C, 7 C, &c. re-spectively. Also the body doubled, tripled;or halved, thirded ; will be 2 A, 3 A; or7 A, f A, respectively. Now to move thebody A with the celerity C, requires a certainforce to be imprested upon it; and to movewith a celerity as 2 C, requires twice thatforce to be impressed; and to move it with acelerity as 3 C, thrice that force is required $and so on. If it can be made appear here-after that the first force here is necessary, tomove the body, to wit, with the celerity asonce C, the rest follows easily; for we mayconceive the body A moving with the cele-rity 2 C, or 3 C, &c. to be the first effectdoubled, or tripled; which therefore will re-quire the cause that produced it to be doubled,or tripled respectively. Again, to move thebody A with a celerity as C, one half thefirst force is only necessary to be impressed;and to move it with a celerity as j C, onethird the first force is only required: and soon here again. And to move it with a cele-,rity as o C, that is to give it no degree ofcelerity at all, no force is required at all. Therefore it follows thatB 2
