(p) With respect to the reasoning in this paragraph,it is obvious, I think, that what is concluded of matterin general, must be true of any particular part of it.: forwhat agrees to all possible parts, will agree to any one whicha sceptic might pitch on to argue from, However, Itake notice of this, because it hath been observed, Thatmy adversaries ivill not readily adopt a sysiern of unresisi-iing matterbut rather a system of resisting una olive mat-ter, actuated by some small part , endued with-particularpowers and faculties, and particularly with a self-motivepower. And again, That some may pretend, that mattermay have been so made, as to have its inertia with a particu-lar exception, or restriction , or that matter-might kave hadits inertia with the exception of gravity-.
