will be performed at c and by turning theAxis of the upper Friction Wheel, whichforce will be generated in the Axis by a Pow-er of ~ of a pound, acted any where in theCircumference, which force will be generatedat a, by turning the great Wheel’s Axis by aforce of but ~ of one pound acted on thehandle at z, so that by this means of threeFriction Wheels turning under the Pevets ofthe great Wheel, the force of two hundredpound that was required to turn the saidWheel resting on dead Pevets, can now beperformed by the force of but ^ part of onepound, which is but the ~ of 200; and conse-quently if the Wheel instead of two thousandpound had weighed eighty thousand or fortytuns, according to this reduction of the Fric-tion, the said Wheel would be turned by aforce (acted on the handle) of but one pound;so that whatever number of Pevet Wheels areproposed in order to reduce the Friction, itwill be very easy to determine how far thesaid Friction is reduced thereby by the fol-lowing rule.
