which the owners, &c. have provided for thealleviation of distress occasioned by explo-sion * and other accidents in mines, this saysnothing in regard to the sacrifice of humanlife; and so long as the lives and the social tiesof existence (which I presume exist in thebreasts of miners and their families as inothers) are a subject of national consideration,an anxiety must be felt for their fate.
