This, I am certain, is a large Field fcrfEmployment, when I take a View of themany mineral Species, which appear soabundantly all over JVales, and there re-main wholly neglected, under the ignomi-nious and despised Names of Sulphurs ;but, if we would employ some Part of ourTime to reflect and consider that they werecreated by the omniscient Power for someUse or other, we should not so carelesslypass them over, and neglect them. I aminform’d there have been some Attemptsmade in this Kingdom to extract a fusiblemalleable Metal, out of Mondye, and otherfuch-like Mineral Substances,vulgarly term’dSulphurs, but they have proved ever unsuc-cessful ; yet, I am satisfied, that these Dis-appointments arose for want of proper Mix-tures ; and, it is most certain, that theirExpectations would not have been frustra-ted, had they, instead of Lime, so com-monly made use of in Smelting the LeadOre in this Country, made use of theMarcasites, and other mineral Species inSmelting that Ore, as a little Experiencewould soon make manifest : If, from whatI have said, any shall proceed to makeTrials, in order to render these Thingssuccessful, let them be made in smallQuantities • and, from the Result of severalof them, they will become proper Judgesof what is most suitable • for, it is about
