INVENTIONS OF NIKOLA TESLA.

IS

was rewarded very quickly in this held with results of the mostsurprising nature. A slight acquaintance with some of theseexperiments led the compiler of this volume to urge Mr. Teslato repeat them before the American Institute of Electrical En-gineers. This was done in May, 1891, in a lecture that marked, beyond question, a distinct departure in electrical theory andpractice, and all the results of which have not yet made them-selves fully apparent. The New York lecture, and its suc-cessors, two in number, are also included in this volume, with afew supplementary notes.

Mr. Teslas work ranges far beyond the vast departments ofpolyphase currents and high potential lighting. The Miscella-neous section of this volume includes a great many other in-ventions in arc lighting, transformers, pyro-magnetic generators,thermo-magnetic motors, third-brush regulation, improvementsin dynamos, new forms of incandescent lamps, electrical meters, condensers, unipolar dynamos, the conversion of alternating intodirect currents, etc. It is needless to say that at this momentMr. Tesla is engaged on a number of interesting ideas and inven-tions, to be made public in due course. The present volumedeals simply with his work accomplished to date.
