Homacoustic.
TO SOUND THE CALL.
Place the finger or palmof the hand on the whistle atthe top of the cylinder in themetal ball, and press downquickly, seeing that the holeis completely covered to pre-vent escape of air.
Release the cylinder sharply, thus leaving the whistle readyfor reply from reverse end.
TO CONVERSE.
On receiving reply whistle, raise the receiver or ear-piece(as shown in cut) in horizontalposition with 'mouth - piece, placing it closely over the ear,at the same time speaking intomouth-pieceas close aspossiblewithout actual contact. Thecommunications are then ex-changed as in a telephone.
The conversation beingended, drop the receiver, whenthe instrument closes auto-matically.

‘HIS IMPORTANT INVENTION in connection with Speaking Tubes entirely supersedes, for indoorpurposes, not only The Telephone, but all existing arrangements for indoor intercommunication.
So far as the Telephone is concerned, the Homacoustic possesses, besides
MANY SPECIAL ADVANTAGES OF ITS OWN,
all the advantages claimed by the Telephone for indoor purposes, without its many disadvantages,is automatic not mechanical. Once fixed, it is always in working order—this we guarantee—andlast cost.
The Homacoustic also entirely supersedes the old-fashioned Speakings Tubes, withtheir faulty mouthpieces and whistles, and completely does away with all their many objectionable features, the mostprominent of which is having to displace the air in the tube by blowing into the pipe in order to sound the distantwhistle. 1 his the Homacoustic entirely obviates, as the signal is automatic.
Unlike, too, the ordinary Speaking Tube attachments, there is no changing of, first the mouth, and then theear, to the tube, as messages can be simultaneously transmitted and received, and conversations can be carriedon between individuals in rooms in different parts of a building, precisely as though they were in the same room;there is
NO INHALATION OF A SPEAKER’S BREATH,
and the whistle is of necessity always in position. The tube, too, is closed, excepting when in actual use, thus insuringabsolute privacy.
But one Of the gsreatest advantages possessed by the Homacoustic is that, by an ingeniousarrangement, any one room can be placed in speaking connection with any number of other rooms without the
multiplication of flexible tubes, mouth pieces, whistles, &c. An
AUTOMATICALLY WORKED SWITCH-PLATE OR COMMUTATOR
enables practically one instrument or mouth piece to be in direct communication with any numberof other tubes.
The Homacoustic can be readily fitted to existings Speakings Tubes at asmall cost.
The Homacoustic, in any or all of its various forms, is applicable or adaptable for use in establishments ofevery description, both private and public. To Commercial Houses, Ranks, Hospitals, Hotels, Insurance, and all otherlarge Offices, Factories, or on board Steamers, as a means of communication between the officer of the watch, thecommander, and the engine-room, it is invaluable (see our Maritime Pamphlet) while for private houses and smalleroffices it is the greatest possible convenience.
