Since Mr. Loudon commenced the Gardeners Magazine, he has hadnumerous applications made to him (many of them anonymously), by the readersof his works, for opinions on plans and elevations, or other designs; and for listsof trees and shrubs, ornamental or fruit-bearing, for particular purposes, &c. &c.These applications have considerably increased since the publication of theSuburban Gardener, and of Mr. Loudon s edition of Reptons Works, andas they begin to occupy more of his time than he can afford to spare gra-tuitously, he has thought it right to state that, in conformity with the practiceof other authors on scientific subjects (see Card. 71 lag. vol. xiv. p. 526), heintends to charge for this advice in future, whether given verbally to personscalling, or by letter. For professional visits he has, for the last thirty years,been in the habit of charging at the rate of five guineas a day ; and the follow-ing scale of terms is founded on this datum :

A visit to anyplace not exceeding 12 miles from London , and notoccupying more time, including going and returning, than from1) in the morning to 5 in the afternoon, including all expenses £5 5

Above 12 miles, and not exceeding 20including all expenses... 6 6

Above 20 miles, 5 guineas a day, from time of leaving Bayswaterto that of returning to it, and travelling expenses, by post.
