Phidon therefore and his brother Caranus werecontemporary to Solon, Alcmaeon, Clifthenes, and Eurolycus,and flourilhed about the 48th and qqth olympiads. They werealfo contemporary in their later days to Crcefus; for Solon con-verfed with Crcefus, and Alcmaeon entertained and condudledthe meffengers whom Crcefus fent to confult the oracle at Del-phi ( n ), an. 1. olymp. 56. according to the marbles, and wasfent for by Crcefus, and rewarded with much riches.

LII. But the times fet down in the marbles before the Perii anempire began, being colledted by reckoning the reigns of kingsequipollent to generations, and three generations to an hundredyears or above ; and the reigns of kings, one with another, be-ing Ihorter in the proportion of about four to feven ; the chro-nology fet down in the marbles, until the conqueft of Media byCyrus, an. 4. olymp. 60. will approach the truth much nearer,by fhortening the times before that conqueft in the proportionof four to feven.
