leton. «The admirable works, dit l’auteur, p. 761, winch the« french savants hâve conferred upon the world on the astro-« nomy of the ancients, leave but meagre gleanings for whoe-« ver may follow, especially in respect to arabian astronomy....« The astrolabe was brought from Herat by major Pottinger;« it consists of a circular piece of brass, about eight inches« in diameter and three-fourths ofan inch thick, being of one« side so followed out, as to contain several plates of brass« upon either side of which planisphères are described, ac-« cording to the latitudes of the principales places of Maho-« medan power or vénération. »
