These 4 rounds were fired into the same pendulum as wasleft hanging on September 2, which had been kept undercover since that time. After these 4 rounds, it weighed811 lb, which is 2|lb less than it ought to be, when theweight of the 4 balls and plugs are added to its formerweight,and which 2-J- lb it must be supposed to have lost byevaporation in the course of the 7 days, which was mostlydry, warm weather.
The plugs tveighed 9 oz to 14t inches.
