These 8 were fired in the river, and observed as before.
The Gun was n° 3, and was elevated 15 degrees.
The ranges are again low, probably from the lightness ofthe balls.
The usual causes of deflection carried three of the balls, namely, the 1st, 7th, and 8th, very near the south stationat e ; and then fell almost close to the party there. Ingeneral it was observed that the balls deviate from their lineof direction, or middle line of the river, to each side, byhalf the breadth of the river, or from 300 to 400 yards !
