In the Preface of the Tenth Vo-lume, it was intimated, that incommencing a Second Series ofTen volumes, it might be de-sirable to modify the originalscheme of giving only one or twogenera in a volume, and to becontent with representing on eachPlate only insects of the samegenus, allowing a volume to con-tain, if convenient, a greatervariety.

I received from many quartersassurances that such a changewould be most gladly welcomed.Dr. Staudinger wrote on the sub-ject as follows:—

“ I quite agree with what you“ say in the Preface of Vol. X.,“ and had indeed long thought“ of advising you to take that“ step. I even go farther, and“ am of opinion that it might“ sometimes be well to figure“ three genera on one Plate.“ Since there are many genera“ which only contain one, or at“ most two or three, species; and
