Description of the Larva .

Length 4 lines. Pale yellow, withdark green dorsal vessel; head black-brown ; second segment with a blackplate above, divided longitudinally ;anterior legs pale brownish ; prolegspale yellow. Rather fat, broadest inthe middle.

Geographical Distribution.

This insect has not been yet foundgenerally distributed in England; itseems with us peculiar to the westernside of the island, having occurred inDevonshire and in the CumberlandLake District. In Germany it seemsfar more generally distributed, andit has occurred in several localitiesin Switzerland and also in Italy nearLeghorn.

Synonymy .

First named Alucita epilobiellain 1794 by Römer, who publishedthe natural history of the species,illustrated by a coloured plate show-ing the larva, mined leaf and imago,in the 11th volume of the “ Schriftender Gesellschaft naturforschenderFreunde in Berlin .” This interest-ing little notice was long forgotten,and Hübner in his “ Sammlung Eu-ropäischer Schmetterlinge” figuredthe insect as new under the name ofTinea langiella, and Treitschke inhis “ Schmetterlinge von Europa,”retaining this specific name, placedit in his genus Elachista. Underthis same name of Elachista langi-ella, Schläger gave a notice of thelarva in the “ Tauschvereinsbericht”

Description de la Chenille.

Longueur 4". D’un jaune pâle,avec le vaisseau dorsal d’un vertfoncé ; la tête est d’un brun-noir ;le second segment porte en-dessusune plaque noire, divisée au milieu ;les pattes antérieures sont d’un brun-âtre pâle ; les fausses pattes d’unjaune pâle. Le corps est assez dodu,ayant le plus de largeur au milieu.

La Distribution Géographique.

Jusqu’à présent cet insecte neparaît pas être généralement ré-pandu en Angleterre ; il paraît affec-tionner la côté occidentale de notreîle, se trouvant en Devonshire etparmi les lacs de Cumberland. EnAllemagne l’espèce paraît être beau-coup plus répandue, et elle se trouveen plusieurs localités de la Suisse , eten Italie à Livourne .

Synonymie.

Nommée d’abord Alucita epilo-biella en 1794 par Römer, qui publial’histoire naturelle de l’espèce, illus-trée par une planche coloriée, quimontre la chenille, la feuille minéeet le papillon, dans le onzième volumedes “ Schriften der Gesellschaft na-turforschender Freunde in Berlin .”Ce petit mémoire bien intéressantétait long-temps oublié, et Hübner dans sa “ Sammlung EuropäischerSchmetterlinge ” figura l’espèce,comme nouvelle, sous le nom deTinea langiella, et Treitschke dansses “ Schmetterlinge von Europa” aretenu ce nom spécifique, en rap-portant l’espèce à son genre Ela-chista. C’est sous ce même nomA’Elachista langiella que Schläger
