BACK OF SOUTH WING TOWERS.
This view shews the upper portion of theTowers, with the Ventilating Shaft, or Smoke Turret,in the centre of east side of Royal Court . Theaccompanying woodcuts represent elevations of thefront and rear pinnacles in the centre of the parapetsof Towers. The front contains a statue of Her presentMajesty, and the rear pinnacle a representation ofKing Edward the Confessor , the first monarch whobuilt a Palace at Westminster.
