No. 6 Large Six-Roll
Double-Cylinder Patent Planing, Matching, and Beading Machine.
With Forged-Steel Slotted Cylinders and Patent Drop Matchers.
Planes Both Sides to 28" wide, 8" thick, and Matches 22" wide.
This is our largest and heaviest planing machine. It is made with specialreference to durability, convenience, rapid work, and the general requii’ements ofa machine of this character, both in the economy of labor, and excellent qualityof the product. It is made to plane upon one or both sides, 24", 26", or .28" wideby 8" thick, and match up to 18", 20", and 22" in width.
The cylinders are made from solid forged-steel, slotted, as may be ordered. The journals are extra large diameter and lead-ground. The bearings L are excep-tionally long, scraped to perfect bearings, and lined with the very best liningmaterial that can be procured. The bearings of the upper cutter-head are planedto fit cored upright stands, cast to a solid bed-plate, which are bedded in a V,and always retained in line. The lower cylinder runs in a heavy frame, whichis adjustable to suit the cut, with pressure-bars upon each side of it; also, a hold-down bar over it, which can be quickly swung out of the way.
An automatic self-acting pressure-bar is placed before the cut of the uppercylinder, and arranged to retain the edge of the bar at all times nearly in the samerelative position to the cutting edge of the knives, which is important to preventtearing in working cross-grained lumber.
The pressure-bar after the cut is self-acting, adapts itself to the finished sur-face of the material being worked, and is also adjustable to and from the path ofthe cylinder to allow of working drop siding or special moldings.
The main bed-plate is made detachable for replaning when worn out of line. The matching arbors are of large diameter, run in self-oiling bearings mountedin heavy hangers, with an adjustment across the bed-plate to accommodate wear, and have the weighted side chip-breaker for working knotty and cross-grainedmaterial.
The matclier-heads are gun metal, have three wings, and are furnished withpatent solid milled cutters. The patent drop matching attachment is furnishedwith this machine when wanted. By the simple moving of a lever the matchingworks are lowered below the line of the bed, converting the machine almostinstantly into a wide surface-planer, or vice versa. The feed-works are of themost powerful kind, consisting of six feeding rolls, 8" in diameter—two pair infront of the upper cylinder, and one pair after the under cylinder.
These carry the lumber entirely through the machine, always keeping it ina straight line. They are mounted upon heavy cored upright stands, united bybox stretchers, and connected by a train of heavy expansion gearing of the mostsubstantial character, which will open to receive lumber 8" in thickness.
Beading attachments for working ceiling, either upon one or both sides, arefurnished to order. It has a continuous fence, with a pressure-guide for retain-ing the lumber against it. Also changes of speed for hard and soft wood, full setwrenches, etc.
The oouritersliaft has tight and loose pulleys 16"xlG", and should make 1,000revolutions.
