No. 2K Four-Roll

Double-Cylinder Pacific Planing and Matching Machine.

"With Forg-ecl-Steel Slotted Cylinders and Patent Drop Matchers.

Planes Both Sides 24" wide, 6" thick, and Matches 16" wide.

Tliis machine is of the same general character as that shown on the pre-ceding pages, except that it is larger and planes on both sides instead of onlyupon one. It is a very strong machine, designed for shops of moderate capacity. For quality of work, capacity of production, and cost, it is unrivaled. It willsurface on one or both sides from %" to 24" in width, and to 6" in thickness, and will tongue and groove up to 16" wide. The frame is made in our usualstyle, with plate sides with heavy internal ribs, leaving the outside, or contour, perfectly smooth.

The cylinders are made of solid forged steel, slotted upon all faces, withlarge journals and lead-ground. They have chip-breaking lips, and run in long, patent self-oiling bearings. The upper cylinder is planed to fit to stands castsolid to a bed-plate extending across the machine. It has pulleys for two driv-ing belts, and raises upon an angle, securing an equal tension of the belts atany height elevated.

It has an automatic self-acting pressure-bar before the cut, arranged to retainthe edge of the bar at all times nearly in the same relative position to thecutting edge of the knives. A self-acting pressure-liar is placed after the cut, which adjusts itself to the finished surface of the material, so there is alwaysa pressure close to the knife, which prevents tearing out in some kinds of lumber, both bars are adjustable to and from the path of the cylinder, to make room formolding, rustic, or drop-siding cutters, etc.

The bed has a detachable plate for replaning or renewal when worn out ofline. The feeding rolls are 6" in diameter, run in pivoted bearings, mounted onPlaned stands, and are connected by heavy box stretchers. The gearing connect-ing the rolls will expand to receive stuff to 6" in thickness, and is weightedinside the frame. The matching hangers are adjustable across the bed. Thematcher-heads are made of gun metal, fitted AVith steel screws, and run on heavysteel arbors, the bearings of which are self-oiling.

The patent weighted side chip-breaker, for working cross-grained and knottylumber, is arranged so as to allow of making a deep rabbet for drop siding. Ithas our patent drop-matcher attachment, by which the whole matching workscan be almost instantly dropped below the line of the bed for wide surfacing, andas quickly readjusted to the proper position for working flooring. It is supplied^ith the double tightener pulley, changes of feed, full set of wrenches, etc.

The countershaft has tight and loose pulleys 12" x 8", and should make 900

devolutions.
