Stengels Patent Automatic Dovetailing Machine.

Works 16" wide, and Self-Keedinpf.

The Stengel Dovetailing Machines have constantly grown in public favor, untilto-day they are regarded as the simplest and most perfect machines in use for furni-ture and cabinet work. The No. 1 will receive and work drawer fronts up to 16" inwidth, or two fronts and sides up to 8" in width can he worked at the same time.

The material is held by vertical and horizontal screw clamps to a sliding car-riage, which has both a vertical and horizontal forward movement in planed ways. The carriage may be stopped and started at any point and returned, and when it liasworked its full stroke stops. After the finished material is removed and fresh placedin the machine it will cut upon its return, the same as in the forward movement, effect-ing a large saving of time, as it cuts with the carriage traversing in either direction.

The arbors carrying the cutters run in adjustable frames, by which the lengthof the dovetail may be varied. The peculiar arrangement of the dovetail-cutters andarbors is such that by simply turning the cutters the dovetails may be made with aloose or driving fit. When the machine is started the carriage feeds automatical ly, ver-tically and longitudinally, making with each stroke a perfect dovetail and joint untilthe work is completed, when it stops, and one side of the tenon of each piece will befound rounded to fit the rounded inner ends of the mortises cut in the vertical pieces.

The tight and loose pulleys are (i"x3", and should make 000 revolutions.
