Column Rotary

Chair Mortising Machine.

With Pivoted Clamps and Vibrating Spindle.

This machine is especially adapted, to all the variotts kinds of mortisingrequired in common chair work, and can also he used as a Horizontal Boringand Routing Machine. It gives general satisfaction wherever used. The prin-ciple of the machine is rotary. It is huilt on a heavy cored column, with broadfloor base, with all the working parts constructed in the most careful manner. The fixed end of the arbor moves in a ball-and-socket joint, allowing it to re-volve and to reciprocate at the same time.

The reciprocation of the Boring and Mortising Spindle is effected by meansof a connecting rod and an adjustable crank-pin attached to the face-plate of thedriving shaft,, having variable speeds. Any length of mortise equal to the travelof the cutting bit, which is 4", can be made by changing the position of the crank-pin. The depth of the mortise or the hole to be bored is gauged by the stopon the table. The table that supports the material is fed forward to the stop bymeans of a hand lever with rack and pinion connection.

The table is raised vertically by the screw and hand-wheel, and is providedwith three clamps of different forms for holding the material in the positionrequired for the woik. Routing bits, one each %" diameter, are fur-

nished.

The tight and loose pulleys are 8 // x4 // , and should make 1,000 revolutions.
