Patent Power Mortising and Boring Machine.

With Iiadial Compound Bed.

Automatic Chisel-Reverser and Adjustable Treadle.

This machine is heavy and substantial, requiring no supports to the "build-ing. The column is cast in one piece, with a broad sole-plate, affording a largefloor area. The crank-wheel and driving pulley are at the base of the column,so the gyration is distributed largely to the floor upon which the machinestands. The chisel-mandrel works in a cross head gibbed to the face of thecolumn, with provision for wear.

It has a stroke of and also our patent automatic chisel-reverser, by

which the chisel is reversed while in motion or at rest, simply by the actionof the treadle. Also the compound bed, or table, upon which the material, afterbeing clamped, is fed forward under the chisel by hand-wheel and pinion. It isprovided with stops so that material can be fed to the chisel by hand withoutuse of the carriage feed, when desired.

The bed is mounted on a cylindrical projecting stud, and can be quicklychanged to mortise at different angles and to regulate the position of the mor-tises in the piece to be worked. It is gibbed to the column and has a verticaladjustment by means of a screw and bevel gears for regulating the depth ofmortise, and also a quick vertical movement by the treadle to firing the mate-rial to the chisel. The vertical movement of the bed is 8", and v T ill receivedoor-rails up to 12" wide.

The boring attachment is self-contained, and placed upon the left-hand sideof the column, in line with the chisel-mandrel. The spindle has a long verticalmovement, and is belted from the countershaft. A cylindrical sleeve covers thegear and shaft entirely, protecting it from dust and shavings and liability ofcontact with the gears.

The tight and loose pulleys are 11" x 3", and should make 400 revolutions.
