NO. 3

Power Mortising and Boring Machine.

Radial Compound Bed.

"With Automatic Chisel-Reverser and Adjustable Treadle.

This machine has been especially designed to meet the wants of workersin hard wood and the heavier class of building work. It is built upon a heavyiron column of cored section, with a large sole plate affording a broad floor sup-port. It is simple in construction, easy of manipulation, and rapid in operation.

The driving pulleys run between bearings. The chisel-mandrel is suppliedwith our Patent Automatic Chisel-Reverser, which will reverse the chisel by theaction of the table with less than 1" movement.

It is supplied with the compound bed, which is mounted upon a cylindricalbearing, attached to a supplemental plate gibbed to the face of column, whichallows both straight or angular mortising, and either hand or power feed. Whenused for the latter, the stuff' is clamped to the bed and moved under the chiselby means of a hand-wheel and pinion operating upon a rack.

For feeding by hand, the upper portion of the bed is secured and the hold-down stops adjusted to the proper height, and the material passed by handunder them to the chisel.

The bed is adjustable to and from the chisel to suit the position of themortise, also vertically for regulating the depth. It has also a quick verticalmovement by means of the treadle for elevating the material to the chisel untilthe desired depth is reached, and the mortise completed. It will receive door-rails up to 12" wide.

The boring attachment is mounted upon the side of the column, the centerof the spindle being placed in line with the center of the chisel-mandrel. Thework can first be bored, and then fed under the chisel and mortised withoutbeing taken from the bed. This is of great advantage in working hard wood.

The boring spindle gears are encased in a hollow tube, and driven directfrom the driving shaft. Five chisels are furnished, viz.: fa", and

%", with augers to match.

The tight and loose pulleys are 11" x. 3", and should make 400 revolutions.
