Radial Reversible Car Borer.
With Power Elevating Spindle.
This machine is designed for the end boring of car sills. It will bore atany angle on a horizontal or vertical plane by proper adjustment.
The column is cast in one piece, the boring spindle runs in a revolving frame, which can be reversed so as to bore either to the right or left, and can be movedto any angle to 90 degrees. It is attached to a segmental plate, which is sup-ported and gibbed to the column.
The vertical adjustment of the boring spindle and table is attained by aheavy screw actuated by friction at the base of the column. It has also a handadjustment. The boring spindle has a vertical movement of 8", with a hori-zontal movement of 12", and will bore to that depth. Boring can be done inthe end of a car sill or stick parallel with its length for joint bolts or at a rightqngle with its length for ordinary bolts.
It is particularly useful in connection with our No. 3 Automatic RailwaySaw, by which two operations are performed at the same time, that is, cuttingoff the ends of the sills and boring them Avitliout changing their position.
Also in connection with the No. 3 Automatic Railway Saw and our Vei'ticalCar Tenoning Machine, by which the process of cutting off, boring and formingthe tenons on the piece are completed without reversal or returning the stick.
The tight and loose pulleys are 12"x4>£", and should make 625 revolutions.
