Heavy Spoke-Tenoning Machine.
With Adjustable Head-Frames.
This machine is designed for tenoning the end of spokes, ready for themortise in the hub. The column is heavy, with broad base. The arbors areof large diameter, lead-ground, and run in connected self-oiling bearings gibbedto the front face of the column, and driven direct from the countershaft inthe base of the machine.
Both cutter-heads are raised and lowered together by the upper hand-wheel, which regulates the shoulders of the tenons on the lower side. Thecenter hand-wheel separates the heads to suit the thickness of tenon. Theupper head has also an end adjustment to allow of making one shoulder ofthe tenon larger than the other. The cutter-liead knives set upon an angle,insuring a drawing cut and smooth work.
The carriage is strong, yet light, and runs on broad ways, mounted on anextension of the column, to which can be attached an arbor and saws forcutting off, if desired, and driven direct from the countershaft. The carriageis provided with an adjustable clam]) for securing the spoke while beingworked; also stops for regulating the length of tenon, etc.
The tight and loose pulleys are 8"x4", and should make 950 revolutions.
