By the constitution of this Society, three-fifths of the surplus Premiums are allotted to the Assured, who havethus received, from time to time, returns amounting in the aggregate to nearly £350,000; while at the same timothey are free from all responsibility on account of its engagements.

The last return was declared at Michaelmas 1846.

The Premiums charged by this Office are upon the most moderate scale , and in no case higher than thoser etnared by other Offices making no return to their Insurers.

The return is made upon all Policies, whether annual or for shorter periods.

wt/i? 8 Societ y has been established upwards of forty years upon the principles of Mutual Assurance, during'ch period it has paid to claimants, on terminated Policies, upwards of £3,000,000, in addition to whicheariy () ne Million sterling has been assigned by way of Bonuses. The invested capital of this Society amountedh? n the 30th of June last to £2,120,000. 12 s. 8 d., and consisted of the general capital account £1,945,675,'e reserved fund of £174,324. 13s. 6 d.
