Parties of Sappers employed blasting in the 4thparallel and No. 15 battery, and mining in reserveammunition magazine ; No. 14 battery on left, parapetraised, earth brought from rear to make terrepleine;took down and replaced gabions at embrasures, theirslope not being sufficient; at right of battery, exca-vating for terrepleine, and building traverse ; No. 15battery, excavating for terrepleine, and raising parapetall along ; fixed new magazine frame, and commencedpassage in rear- ; continued passage in real’ of oldmagazine ; No. 13, excavating for magazine betweentwo and three mortars ; earth thrown on top of No. 8battery ; a party blasting old road through communi-cation from No. 5 to 9 battery ; cover improved atthe right of communication and from No. 4 boyau to14 battery.
2d Relief.
Same as in 1st relief, and a party cutting passageround new magazine at riglit of No. 10 battery. Nocasualties.

There were four casualties in the working party.

The working parties this morning were not obtainedtill n quarter past five.
Shelled a good deal in the afternoon in the Quarries and new fourth parallel, but no harm was done ; 30men of the Line were employed blasting from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. in communication to Quarries, in Quarries ,and Right advance of Quarries.
Since my last day’s duty, that part of the parapetcontaining the embrasures that had been blocked andbuilt up in the Malakoff Tower have been revettedwith gabions on the exterior slope.
