•at mortar battery No. 20, on left of No. 7 ; one Sapperancl 28 blasters working in fifth parallel, No. 16battery ; 20 men and one Sapper widening passageround traverse on right, and filling up solid betweentraverse and parapet.
2d Relief.
Owing to the rain there was very little work donethis afternoon.
One sergeant, Royal Sappers and Miners, and30 men, were working at same work as this morningin fourth parallel.
No. 17 battery, 30 men collecting earth and softstone.
No. 16 batteiy, 30 men widening passage roundtraverse, and raising wall at right angle ; nothingcould be done in the way of draining ; 30 menworking at space in front of No. 7 battery. Veryheavy shelling in afternoon ; one casualty.

1. Seventy-five men employed in the fifth purullclclearing trench of stones quarried by the miners,making traverses, and thickening parapet, and clearingdrains.
2. Fifty men employed in No. 17 battery to thickenparapet and build wall on right of the battery.
3. Fifty-five employed making trench and connect-ing rifle pits on the left of the fifth parallel.
4. Twenty men in centre communication to fifthparallel, to thicken parapet on left of double sap.
One man slightly wounded.
A heavy fire of shell and grape on the advancedtrenches of the Right (English ) attack, also on theWoronzoff Road party, with grenades from mortars.Several light-balls thrown just in front of the advancedtrench, Right attack, and a few in front of fifthparallel, Left attack, followed by grape.
The enemy were carrying shot into the ‘Creekbattery in carts, about 1 o’clock a.m.
Killed, 1 rank and file. Wounded, 8 rank and file.
Day very fine. Wind N.E. Thermometer inshade 80°.
Right Attack.
7. Communication from Quarries to fifth parallel,repairing parapets and traverses, 1st and 2d reliefs,20 men.
8. Collecting casks, 1st and 2d reliefs, 10 men ;sinking do., to hold water, 1st and 2d reliefs, 18 men.
9. No. 9 battery, resetting gabions and repairingparapet, 2d relief, 40 men.
The carpenters were employed, one brigade inNo. 7 battery, relaying a platform, one brigade inNo. 10 battery, doing the same.
The miners were employed in the Eight approachto fifth parallel, and two of them were slightlywounded.
The Sappers were employed in general superin-tendence.
The working parties worked well, and werescarcely annoyed at all by the enemy.
I am only aware of two casualties, which occurredin the fourth parallel.
The Russians were at work on the top of FortConstantine, apparently forming a parapet of earth ontop of the masonry.

8 P.M. to 2 A.M.
Ono hundred mon carrying platform limbol- andmagazine frames from Royal Engineer park to firstparallel.
This party was detained, from the heavy ground,and did not arrive at the 21-gun battery until nearly1 a.m. ; they were in consequence not available forany other service.*
Sixty men collecting stone in Quarries for buildinga wall and traverse ; 50 men continuing No. 17battery ; 40 men assisting the Sappers in rerevettingthe embrasures, No. 14 battery ; 30 men making adrain in No. 18 battery ; 30 men in No. 19 battery,resetting gabions ; 40 men making a drain in com-munication from the well to No. 19 battery ; 40 menmaking a drain in communication m between fourthand fifth parallels ; 10 men making a cesspit incommunication k from No. 19 battery to fourthparallel. Nothing extraordinary. The workingparties worked satisfactorily.
