number of Cvprinidfc into one genus, Leuciscus, whichhave by Heckel been distributed into about 16 distinctgenera. It may well be difficult to determine a Fish ofthis division according to Valenciennes book. Besidesthese, there follow the genera Chondrostoma, Catla ( Gibelion ,Heck.), Catostomus, Sclerognathus ( Catostomus Cyprinus,Lesueur), which appears to be identical with Rhitidostomus,Heck., Exoglossum. It is impossible here to enter uponthe numerous new species.

Some new Cyprinidse of the genus Barbus have been figured by Smith, Ill. South Africa, 14, and arranged in subgenera. Heckel had already con-sidered them, Cheilobarbus capensis. 16J inch. D. 10; P. 16 ; V. 8; A. 7 ;C. 19. Ch. marequensis differs somewhat in form from the preceding.
