HELMINTHES GORDIACEI.

The Reporter (Entomologische Zeitung. Jahrg. 1843, p. 77)is convinced, by communications in letters from Creplin andDiesing, that the Gordius aquations is really parasitic in theabdominal cavity of the most various insects. He has alsodescribed (ib. p. 79) a Mermis albicans, which was found ina pool of water near Erlangen . The females of this longworm contained simple ova, and the genital aperture wassituated at a considerable distance from the posterior extre-mity of the body; the males presented at the caudalextremity a double, horny penis, which is entirely -wantingin Gordius. The Reporter is also induced to refer theFilaria acuminata to Mermis. The list of insects infestedby Gordius and Mermis as parasites, published by him, hasbeen augmented with many new instances.
