In the petrifactions of Monte Bolca, wherethe impressions of fish are preserved be-tween the laminae of a calcareous schis-tus, a hundred and five different specieshave been enumerated ; of which thirty-nine are said to have come from theAsiatic seas, three from the African,eighteen from those of South, and elevenfrom those of North America . It is a say-ing which, I presume, the observations ofM.
