The Abbe Lanzi, “ Storia Pittorica,” vol. i. p. 83, of the editionalready referred to, mentions a print representing ‘ Christ takendown from the Cross/ marked, like the above, with the letters P P;initials which he considers as indicating Pietro Perugino ; but in thelast and augmented edition of his work, (Bassano, 1809,) he omitsthe passage altogether; doubtless because, upon further considera-
