He had, withhim, a Letter from King Philip andQueen Mary , to the Emperour ofRusjia , in Answer to that written byhim to King Edward• VI. Whereas, by the Consent andLicence of our. most dear and en-tirely beloved late Brother, KingEdward VI. whole Soul GOD par-don, sundry of Our Subjects, Mer-chants of the City of London, with-in this Our Realm of Etigland, did,at their own proper Costs and Ad-venture, furnish three Ships to dis-cover, search and find Lands, I-ilands, Regions, and Territories, be-fore this Adventure not known, norcommonly haunted and frequentedby Seas. The one of the whichthree Ships, named the EdwardBon-aventure (whereof Our Right Well-beloved Richard Chanceller was thenGovernour and chief Captain) chan-ced, by the Grace of God, and .thegood Conduct of the said Chanceller,to arrive and winter in the NorthPart of Your Empire of RuJJia.Forasmuch as we be credibly in-formed, by the Report of Our Tru-sty and Well-beloved Subject, thatsour .Majesty did not only call him,and certain of his Company, to YourImperial Presence and Speech, en-tertained and banqueted them, withall Humanity and Gentleness: Butalso, being thereunto requested,partly by the Letters of Our saidBrother, and partly by the said Ri-chard Chanceller, have, by YourLetters Patents, under Your.
