1583. “ whose Names shall be noted or en-" tered in some of Our Courts of Re-tc cord, within this Our Realm of Eng-“ land , and that with the Assent of the" laid Sir Humphry, his Heirs or Af-" signs, shall now, in this Journy for* c Discovery, or in the second Journy,for Conquest, hereafter, travel tosuch Lands, Countries, and Terri-tC tories as aforesaid, and to their, and«c ev ery of their Heirs; that they, and" every, or any of them, being eitherte born within Our said Realms of Eng-tc land or Ireland, or within any other" Place, within our Allegiance, and" which hereafter shall be inhabitingcc within any the Lands, Countries and<c Territories, with such Licence as“ aforesaid, shall, and may have, and" enjoy all the Pri vileges of free Deni-" zens and Persons, Natives of England," and within our Allegiance, any Law,Custom or Usage to the contrary not-tl withstanding.

" And forasmuch, as upon the find-cc ing out, discovering and inhabiting" of such remote Lands, Countries and* c Territories, as aforesaid, it shall be" necessary for the Safety of all Men,that shall adventure themselves, in" those Journies or Voyages, to deter-" mine to live together in Christian" Peace and civil Quietness, each with" other, whereby every one may, with<c more Pleasure and Profit, enjoy that" whereunto they stiall attain, with" great Pain and Peril ; We, for Us,<s Our Heirs and Successors are likewise" pleased and contented, and by these<c Presents do give and grant to the said" Sir Humphry, and his Heirs and As-te signs, for ever, that he and they,and every or any of them, stiall and" may, from Time to Time, for ever" hereafter, within the said mentioned" remote Lands and Countries, and inff the Way, by the Seas, thither, and<f from thence, have full and meer Pow-fc er and Authority, to correct, punish," pardon, govern and rule by their,fC and every or any of their good Dis-tr cretions and Policies, as well in Cau-" ses Capital or Criminal, as Civil," both marine and other, all such our" Subjects and others, as stiall, from" Time to Time, hereafter adventure" themselves in the said Journies orfc Voyages, habidative or possessive, or" that stiall, at any Time, hereafter,re inhabit any such Land, Countries or" Territories, as aforesaid, or that shalltr abide within two Hundred Leagues

" of any the said Place or Places, where 1 583," the laid Sir Humphry, or his Heirs,

" or Affigns, or any of them, or any" of his or their Associates or Compa-nies, stiall inhabit within six Years,

" next ensuing the Date hereof, ac-" cording to such Statutes, Laws and‘ f Ordinances, as stiall be by him, the" said Sir Humphry his Heirs and As-" signs, or every, or any of them, de-" visied or establistied for the better<( Government of the said People,

" as aforesaid: So always, that may" be, as near as conveniently may,

“ agreeable to the Form of the Laws" and Policy of England. And also,

" that they be not against the trueChristian Faith or Religion, now pro-" fessed in the Church of England, nor" in any Wise, to withdraw any of theSubjects, or People of those Lands or" Places from the Allegiance of Us,

" Our Heirs or Successors, as their im-" mediate Sovereigns under God. Andfarther, We do, by these Presents,

" for Us, Our Heirs and Successors,

" give and grant full Power and Au-thority, to our trusty and well-be-" loved Counsellour, Sir PHilliam Cecil,

“ Knight, Lord Burleigh, our High" Treasurer of Er.gland,and to the Lord“ Treasurer of England, of Us, for the" Time being, and to the Privy Coun-" cil of us, Our Heirs and Successors,

" or any four of them, for the Time" being, that he, they, or any four of" them, stiall and may, from Time to" Time, and at all Times, hereafter,

" under his or their Hands or Seals, byVirtue of these Presents, authorize" and licence the said Sir Humphrytc Gilbert, his Heirs and Assigns, and" every or any of them, by him and" themselves, or by their or any of" their sufficient Attornies, Deputies,

Officers, Ministers, Factors and Ser-vants, to embark and transport out ofour Realms of England and Ireland,all, or any of his or their Goods, andall or any of the Goods of his or their" Asiociates and Companies, and everyor any of them, with such other Ne-" cessaries and Commodities of any ofOur Realms, as to the said Lord* Treasurer, or four of the Privy Coun-" cil of us, Our Heirs, or Successors,

" for the Time being, as aforesaid,stiall be, from Time to Time, by hisor their Wisdoms or Discretions,
