*585. or Trade unto or from the said Countryof Barbary, or to or from any Partthereof, for the buying and selling of allManner of Wares and Merchandizes,whatsoever, that now or accustomablyheretofore have been brought or trans-ported, from, or to the said Country ofBarbary , or from or to any of the Ci-ties, Towns, Places, Ports, Roads, Ha-vens, Harbours, or Creeks, of the saidCountry of Barbary , any Law, Statute,Grant, Matter, Customs or Privileges,to the contrary, in any wife notwith-standing.

And for the better establishing, or-dering and governing of the said Earlsof Warwick and Leicejier, Thomas Star-kie, &c. abovesaid, their Factors, Ser-vants and Assigns, in the Trade afore-said, We, for Us, Our Heirs and Suc-cessors, do, by these Presents, give andgrant full Licence to the said Thomas.Starkie, Gerard Gore , the Elder, andthe Rest aforesaid, and to every ofthem, from Time to Time, during thesaid Term of twelve Years, at their Plea-sures, to assemble and meet together,in any Place or Places convenient, with-in our City of London, or elsewhere,to consult of, . and for the said Trade,,and with the Consent of the said Earlof Leicejier, to make and establishgood. and necessary Orders, and Ordi-nances, for, and touching the same;And all such Orders and Ordinances somade, to put in Use, and execute, andthem or any of them,with the Consent ofthe said Earl of Lei c eft er,to alter, change,and make void, and, if need be, tomake new; as, at any Time, duringthe said Term, they, or the most Part' of them, then living, and trading, shallfind convenient.

Provided always, that the Ordi-nances, or any of them, be not con-trary or repugnant to the Laws, Sta-tutes, or Customs of this Our Realm ofEngland. And to the Intent, that theyonly to whom the said Liberty of Traf-fick is granted, by these our LettersPatent, and none other, Our Subjects,whatsoever, without their special Con-sent and Licence before had, should,during the said Term, have Trade, orTraffick, for any Manner of Merchan-dizes, to, or from the said Country ofBarbary, or, to, or from any City,Town, Place, Port, Harbour or Creek,within the said Country of Barbary, to,or out of Our said Realm and Domini-ons, We do, by these Presents, streight-

ly charge, command and prohibit all 1585,and every Our Subjects, whatsoever,other than only the said Earls of War-wick and Leicejier, Thomas Starkie, and,the Rest, abovesaid, and every of themby themselves, or by their Factors orServants, during the said Term, totrade or traffick, for or with any Mer-chandizes, to or from the said Countryof Barbary, or to or from any of theDominions of the same, as they tenderOur Favour, and will avoid Our HighDispleasure, and upon Pain of Impri-sonment of his and their Bodies at OurW ill and Pleasure, and of forfeiting alltheir Merchandizes, or the full Valuethereof, wherewith they, or any ofthem, during the said Term, shalltrade or traffick to or from the said Coun-try of Barbary, or to, or from the Do-minions of the same, contrary to this OurPrivilege and Prohibition, unless it beby,and with the express Licence,Con sentand Agreement of the said Earls ofWarwick' and Leicejier, &c. or by,and with the express Licence and Con-sent of the more Part of them, thenliving and trading, first had and obtain-ed, so always that the said Earl of Lei-cejier be one, if he be living.

And We farther, for Us, Our Heirsand Successors, of Our special Grace,meer Motion, and certain Knowledge,do grant to the said Earls of Warwickand Leicejier, Thomas Starkie and theRest abovesaid, and to every of them,that nothing shall be done, to be ofForce or Validity, touching the saidTrade or Traffick, or the Exercisethereof, without or against the Con-sent of said the Earls, Thomas Starkie,

(and the others before named) duringthe Time of these Our Letters Patent,for twelve Years, as aforesaid.

And for that the said Earls, ThomasStarkie, &c. and every of them afore-said, should not be prevented, or in-terrupted in this their said Trade, Wedo, by these Presents, for Us, OurHeirs and Successors, streightly prohi-bit and forbid all Manner of Person orPersons, as well Strangers, of what Na-tion or Country soever, as Our own Sub-jects, other then only the said Earls,

Thomas Starkie, &c. and every of them,as aforesaid, that they or any of them,from henceforth, during the said Termof twelve Years, do, or shall bring, orcause to be brought, into this Our Realmof England, or to any the Dominionsthereof, any Manner of Merchandizes,
